General Motors Trucks of the Future (1982)
Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 2:50PM In 1982-83 Geoff Lawson created these concept paintings for General Motors. Stumbling upon great pieces of transportation futurism from the past certainly makes me wonder if a current lack of imagination is what has doomed the American auto industry. (via BigLorryBlog)

I wonder what they would be like if actually built, as far as mileage, etc.?
I read over your blog, and i found it inquisitive, you may also try

Ban Hammer, Geoff.
When it comes to design-issues, I share your thoughts (but including the worldwide auto-industry).
Although the cars today may look much more 'stylish' than the ones let's say 10 years ago, I happen to miss a certain amount of 'evolution'...
1982?? Wow thats actually amazing design for way back then
I can't quite put my finger on why, but something about that truck in the top image reminds me of the "guildsmen" -- sort of extreme-high-tech descendants of today's "big rig" drivers -- in Heinlein's Starman Jones.
OMG, this design is so iconic 1980s futurism. The hmm... angular plasticity with some cyberpunk nichés, omnomnom! There's something similar to this
O.M.G
It reminds me of the TV series " The Highway Man".
And yes, the design is way..way futuristic of its time.
It all looks more like Japan than anything we'd ever have seen in the states.
